Understanding Draft vs. Saved Lessons

By Michael Carlucci Published: 2026-01-14 Help Center Guide

Draft and Saved Lesson Status

MyLesson.AI automatically saves all lesson plans, but distinguishes between "draft" and "saved" status. Understanding this difference helps you manage your lesson library effectively.

What Are Draft Lessons?

Draft lessons are automatically created when you generate a lesson plan. They are:

  • Saved immediately after generation
  • Marked with "draft" status
  • Work-in-progress lessons
  • Accessible from your Lessons page
  • Not yet finalized

What Are Saved Lessons?

Saved lessons are finalized lesson plans. They become "saved" when you:

  • Complete the Lesson Wizard
  • Explicitly save the lesson from the lesson view page
  • Generate additional components (quizzes, exercises, etc.)

Why This Distinction Matters

The draft/saved distinction helps you:

  • Organize Your Library: Separate work-in-progress from finalized lessons
  • Track Progress: See which lessons are complete
  • Manage Content: Focus on finalizing drafts when ready
  • Analyze Usage: Understand your lesson creation patterns

Viewing Draft and Saved Lessons

On your Lessons page, you can see:

  • All your lessons (both drafts and saved)
  • Status indicators showing which are drafts vs. saved
  • Creation and update dates
  • Options to edit, view, or delete

Converting Drafts to Saved

Drafts automatically become saved when you:

  1. Complete the Lesson Wizard (generate all components you need)
  2. Click "Save Lesson" on the lesson view page
  3. Generate any additional component (quiz, exercises, etc.)

Best Practices

  • Don't worry about draft status—lessons are automatically saved
  • Complete the wizard to finalize important lessons
  • Review your drafts regularly to keep your library organized
  • Use saved lessons as templates for future planning

Exporting Drafts and Saved Lessons

Both draft and saved lessons can be:

  • Viewed in the lesson view page
  • Exported to Word (DOCX) format
  • Edited and customized
  • Used as templates
