How to Grade Student Work with AI

By Michael Carlucci Published: 2026-06-28 Help Center Guide

Grade a stack of papers in minutes

MyLesson.AI's AI grading reads photos or scans of student work, scores it against your rubric, and drafts personalized feedback. You stay in control of every grade. Here's the full workflow.

1. Create a grading assignment

Go to Grade Work → New assignment. Give it a title, subject, and grade level, then describe the task. You can also start grading directly from a lesson you created — we'll pull in the details and reuse any rubric attached to that lesson.

2. Add or generate a rubric

Paste your own rubric, reuse a lesson's rubric, or let the AI draft an analytic rubric for you. Choose your country/curriculum and (optionally) align to standards so the criteria match what you teach. You can edit any criterion before grading.

3. Upload student work

On the assignment page, tap Take photo (great on a phone) or Choose images to upload from your gallery or scanner. Upload one student at a time, or a whole stack at once. For multi-page work, add all pages and tick combine into one submission.

  • Use good lighting and get the whole page in frame.
  • JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 12 MB per image.
  • Handwritten and typed work are both supported.

4. Review, tweak & export

Each paper is graded in the background. Open a submission to see the transcription, per-criterion scores, flags, and overall feedback. Adjust anything you like, then export or share with students. The grade students see is always the one you approve.
